Asot Michael is the current Member of Parliament for Saint Peter Constituency in Antigua and Barbuda. He served as the Minister of Energy, Economic Development, and Tourism under the leadership of Prime Minister Gaston Browne. Asot Michael became a Member of Parliament under the Labour Party. Asot Michael was born and raised in Guadeloupe. His family had interests in Antiguan politics. Asot Michael’s father and grandfather thrived as entrepreneurs and supported the ruling labour party.
Michael went to St. Joseph’s Academy before joining St. John’s Antigua for his secondary education. He then joined Barry University in 1989 to pursue his degree in business administration. He also holds an MBA from Miami University. After graduating in 1991, Asot Michael went back to Antigua and joined his father to run Asot Arcade. Asot Arcade is a family business named after Asot Michael’s grandfather. Asot Michael’s political career began in 1995 after securing a job as an administrator to Prime Minister Lester Bird.
Two years later, Lester Bird appointed him as his chief of staff. In 1999, Asot Michael became a Government Senator, responsible for overseeing communications, developments, and public works. He held that role until his appointment as a full minister in 2003. The politician became the Member of Parliament for Saint Peter Constituency in 2004. In 2016, Asot Michael won the award for the best tourism minister in the entire Caribbean. During the recent 2018 elections, Michael retained his Saint Peter Constituency seat, garnering 78 percent of votes. Prime Minister Gaston Browne has assigned him the portfolio of Trade and Investment.
