Gretchen K. Robinson is Vice President and General Counsel for the NFL’s Detroit Lions. In her role, she advises on all legal matters impacting the club and its operations, advises senior management on litigation and labor relations issues, oversees the sports law department’s strategic initiatives, and is responsible for team administration issues, including stadium development projects.
Gretchen Robinson was born in Bristol, Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Psychology from Duke University, graduating magna cum laude. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School, where she was a member of the editorial board of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. After law school, she clerked for Chief Judge Michael Boudin of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She then joined Heller Ehrman LLP as an associate in its corporate department focusing on M&A transactions and securities offerings.
Robinson was appointed to serve as Vice President & General Counsel for Detroit’s Lions in May 2012. In 2013, she was named by Crain’s Detroit Business as one of the “40 Under 40” most influential professionals in the business community. The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation also selected Robinson as a finalist in the historic 2014 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year® Program. She was also named one of Detroit’s “Most Admired” lawyers by SuperLawyers Magazine in 2013, a listing that gets its top 100 attorneys and law firms nominated yearly by their peers.
Gretchen Robinson is a member of the board of trustees for Per Scholas, which provides educational services to children in underserved communities. She has been an active member of The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, serving on their awards to the committee. However, Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, which she serves as a board member, also named her a finalist in the 2014 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year® Program. She was also named one of Detroit’s “Most Admired” lawyers by SuperLawyers Magazine in 2013, bringing its top 100 attorneys and law firms nominated yearly by their peers.
