Sudhir Choudhrie is a renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is one of the people who understood and accepted his health condition from an early age. Over the years, Sudhir has continued to positively impact many people’s lives.
In 1949, Sudhir Choudhrie was born in Delhi, India, but his father passed away while he was very young. His mother took the sole responsibility of raising him and acting as a good role model. At eight years, a medical examination showed that one of his heart valves was leaking. This condition would cause his heart to fail at any time.
Sudhir completed his high school education and got high grades that saw him enroll at the University of Delhi to study economics. After his university education, he worked at his grandfather’s real estate company before starting his own company.
Sudhir Choudhrie founded the Magnum company in 1975, which exploited the potential in the emerging export market. He later ventured into tourism with Taj Resorts and hotels. He also happened to be the director of Ebookers company from 1999 to 2005. Due to his significant investment in Air Deccan in 2003, the airline became a popular airline within five years.
Sudhir suffered from two heart attacks during the airline investment period, which was deteriorating his health; thus, an emergency transplant was necessary. In 1999, a donor was found only when Sudhir Choudhrie had some few hours to live. Dr. Mehmet, a renowned surgeon, performed the transplant surgery.
After the heart transplant, Sudhir promised to be a source of inspiration to many people and encourage organ recipients and donors. Sudhir founded the Choudhrie foundation in 2010 to motivate many people to donate organs. He is actively involved in charity work in the medical field and spends most of his time undertaking philanthropic works.
